Research: Chemistry of Natural Products and Mass Spectrometry of Organic Molecules

Our research work is focused on the area of organic chemistry, with an emphasis on three main lines. The first is focused on the area of Chemistry of Natural Products, where metabolic plant species are characterized and evaluated for their biological activities. A second line of research is the investigation of mechanistic aspects of reactions employing tandem mass spectrometry, and use this knowledge as a tool for structural elucidation of organic compounds. In addition to these lines, our interest is also focused on organic synthesis, with emphasis on synthesis of benzofurans compounds and semi-synthetic derivatives of natural products, and evaluation of their biological activities.
